High School Roundup: Wheeling Central, Weir Advances To Sectional Championship

TRIADELPHIA – The Wheeling Central girls’ soccer team advanced to the championship game of the W.Va. Class A/AA Region I, Section I Tournament on Wednesday with a 10-0 blanking of Tyler Consolidated on the artificial pitch at The Highlands Sports Complex.

Seneca Heller had a pair of goals and two assists for the Maroon Knights, who received net-finders from six different players. Mariah Ratcliffe also found the net twice and charted an assist.

Rylee Wright, Loni Kusic and Maddie Kirchner all had a goal and an assist, while Angeline Robrecht, Addi Hanson and Kaidyn Kowall all had goals.

Logging assists were Gianna Konkle and Isabella Brown.

Goalkeeper Bella Fitzsimmons charted two saves.

Wheeling Central plays Weir on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the East Wheeling Field. The Red Riders blanked Oak Glen, 3-0 Wednesday.

WEIRTON – The Red Riders (12-3-4) recorded one goal in the first half before tacking on two more in the second en route to a 3-0 victory against the Golden Bears in a West Virginia Class AA-A Region 1 Section 1 Semifinal Wednesday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

Oak Glen made Weir work for it as the Golden Bears (7-11-3) battled from start to finish.

The Red Riders and the Maroon Knights battled to a 2-2 tie back on Aug. 29.

On Wednesday, Kylie Dunmyer, Myleigh Clevenger and Brynn Artman all tallied goals for the victors, while Madelyn Cramer, Gigi Paladina and KK Engle all collected an assist.

Rayna Hoover recorded two saves in goal for the hosts.

Cameron Michaud made 13 saves for the visitors.

VOLLEYBALL

Magnolia def. St. Marys 25-10, 25-11, 25-14

NEW MARTINSVILLE — The Blue Eagles swept the Blue Devils on Tuesday in front of their home crowd.

Sienna McKeever and Karli Warder helped the cause for Magnolia, each tallying a dozen kills. McKeever also led the team in digs with 16 and in total points served with 13.

Team captain Jessa Anderson had seven kills and 12 digs. Sidney Knight was the set-up man Tuesday with 34 assists– and a team-high two blocks.

Kaylee Williams had five aces for Magnolia.

The Blue Eagles are 15-13 on the year after the victory.
