JACQUELINE BAKER

Jacqueline “Jackie” Louise Morris Baker, 97, a child of God, passed away at home peacefully on Tuesday April 15, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Wheeling on April 18, 1927, daughter of the late Stanley and Alice (Crowder) Morris.
Jacqueline’s life was marked by resilience. As a child growing up in the Great Depression, she witnessed hardships faced by her family and community. Yet even in the face of scarcity and uncertainty, Jackie maintained a hopeful outlook. This determination and hopeful outlook also helped her overcome Leukemia at the age of 70.
Jackie possessed a unique and radiant spirit that captivated all who knew her. Her beauty was more than skin deep–her kindness, grace, and infectious smile could light up any room. She had a way of making people feel welcome, cherished, and loved, no matter where she went.
Jackie was known for her remarkable musical talents. Despite never having any formal piano instruction, she was a pianist. She had the rare ability to play pieces of music entirely from memory, often delighting her grandchildren and family with impromptu performances. She enjoyed playing along with her brother, Stanley, while he would sing and play the guitar. Her hands would dance effortlessly across the keys, bringing joy to all who listened. A piano was a constant presence in her home, where music filled the air for many years, creating an environment of warmth and love.
Beyond her musical prowess, Jackie had a deep and abiding love for animals. She spent much of her life caring for her beloved pets, and her compassion extended to all creatures, great and small. Her heart was as vast as her love for animals, and she often spoke of the joy they brought her, whether it was a dog curled up at her feet or the birds that sang from her backyard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Richard Baker; siblings, Alice, Stanley, and Glen.
Jackie is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Rick) Appenzeller, Barbara Baker; grandchildren, David (Lori) Meyer, Amie Meyer, Sara (Aaron) Halaja, Joshua Reass; great-grandchildren, Katie, Allison, Everett, Reese and several nieces and nephews.
Her legacy is carried on by all of her beloved and spirited great grandchildren. Her youngest great-granddaughter, proudly carries Jacqueline as her middle name ensuring that Jackie’s memory will live on through future generations.
All services and interment will be private.
Her final resting place will be next to her loving husband in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
