GLORIA DURIG

Gloria Jean Durig, 81, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Wheeling Hospital WVU Medicine in Wheeling, West Virginia.

She was born on June 6, 1943, in Benwood, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Albert and Mary (Conti) Jafrate.

Gloria was a proud Italian-American who grew up in Benwood surrounded by her beloved family, community, and church. She graduated from Bishop Donahue High School and West Liberty University with a Bachelor’s degree in business education. She was a retired teacher, having taught at Wheeling Central Catholic High School and St. Francis High School in Morgantown.

Gloria was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she participated in the Women’s Club, contributing generously to her community with her time and talents. Additionally, for many years, she was a devoted volunteer at the St. Clairsville Library. Her great loves were her husband, children, and granddaughter, cooking, having friends and family close, a mystery novel or American history to read, and WVU Mountaineer sports.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James C. Durig Sr; niece, Maria Smith; nephew, Jeff Smith; and sister-in-law, Mariann Durig.

Surviving are her children, Heidi (Dr. Fritz) Durig Heiby, James C. Durig Jr; granddaughter, Anna Heiby; sister, Jo Ann Smith; brother-in-law, Bob Durig; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Care Funeral Home 204 W. Main Street, St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950 on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM. Funeral liturgy with Mass to follow at 10:00 AM with Fr. Thomas Chillog as celebrant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 224 W. Main Street, St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950. Inurnment will be held in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling, West Virginia at the convenience of the family.
