MARIE PINTO

Marie Louise Pinto, born November 3, 1926, in Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She lived a full and accomplished life, reaching the remarkable age of 98.

Marie was a distinguished member of the United States Navy Nurse Corps, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Her dedicated service during the Vietnam and Korean Wars earned her numerous honors and the admiration of her peers. Following her military career, Marie continued her commitment to nursing in the Wheeling area, where she touched countless lives with her skill and compassion.

A lifelong learner, Marie graduated from the Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Duquesne University. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

In her personal life, Marie had a deep appreciation for the arts, collecting many styles from around the world. She loved to travel, cherishing the opportunity to explore new cultures and landscapes. Her family was of utmost importance to her, and she treasured the time spent with her nieces and nephews. Marie also found joy in the company of her friends at Welty and held dear the moments shared with them.

Marie is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Michael and Lena (Scolastice) Pinto; her brother, John (Nancy) Pinto; her sister, Esther (Carl) Sonnefeld; and her brother, Raymond Pinto. She is survived by her niece and nephews: Susan and Tom Pinto, Barbara Pinto Maurer and Tony Maurer, Colleen and Greg Pinto, Susan Rodriguez and Jim Pinto, Rachel Kearney and Michael Sonnefeld, Pamela Winiesdorffer Sonnefeld and David Sonnefeld, who will all remember her warmth and generosity.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Griffith families, the Bertha Welty staff, and her wonderful neighbors, as well as the loving and attentive staff of Good Shepherd. Special thanks are extended to Cathy Schehl for her caring support during Marie’s final days.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Marie will be laid to rest with full Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a date and time to be determined, a fitting tribute to her esteemed service to her country.

Marie Louise Pinto’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
