LYNN CASEMAN

Lynn F. Caseman, 85, of Middlebourne, WV died Saturday, September 14, 2024 while at Elison Assisted Living in Marietta, OH.

He was born June 22, 1939, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Morgan and Pauline (Fowler) Caseman. Lynn graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1957 and Bethany College in 1966. He received his M.A. degree in Elementary School Administration in 1968 from WVU. He acquired additional graduate credit at both Marshall University and West Virginia University. He was a long time Mountaineer Fan. Please note that Lynn passed early Saturday morning to get a good seat for the “Backyard Brawl”.

His professional career included: Elementary school teacher, 1966-1969, Brooke and Hancock Counties Elementary School Principal, Hancock County, 1970-1975. Elementary School Principal, Tyler County, 1978-1995. He retired in 1995. From 1996 to 2011 he was an Instructor, West Virginia Northern Community College- New Martinsville and Wheeling; Instructor, West Virginia University-Parkersburg, WV; adjunct Professor of Education (Senior Lecturer) West Liberty State College; Academic Program Coordinator for West Virginia University’s Extended Learning Northern Panhandle Regional Center, Warwood, West Virginia.

He was involved in several professional activities which include: West Virginia Education Association; Elementary Principal’s Association; Life Member-PTA; Tyler County Association of Retired School Employees-President; Presenter – West Virginia Leaders of Learning; Ashland Corporation, award for an innovative program for Parent Volunteers in Public Schools; Jostens Corporation Award for innovative computer program; Special award given by the Tyler County Board of Education for dedication and service to the citizens of Tyler County. The school he served as principal for 18 years (Arthur I. Boreman Elementary School) was named as a “Blue Ribbon School” and “School of Excellence” by the West Virginia State Department of Education and the United States Department of Education named the school a “National Blue Ribbon School” and a National School of Excellence”.

Lynn was active in many civic organizations which include the following: Middlebourne Lions Club; Middlebourne Library Board-President; Tyler County Parent Resource Council; Trustee-STEALEY Community Fund; Tyler County Schools Educational Advisory Council; Governor’s Workforce Investment Board-Region 5; “Friends of the College” West Virginia Northern Community College.

Lynn was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (1957-1959).

He was a member of the church of Christ and served as a preacher for the Brownsville, Ohio church of Christ. He attended the Muddy Creek church of Christ and the Middlebourne church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mildred E. Caseman; daughter Lisa Hoskins and her husband, Jeff and son Jarric of Williamstown, WV, daughter, Dr. Eva Stone and her husband, Heath and daughters, Hannah (Lucas) Short, Millie (Quentin) Arnold and Dr. Samantha Stone of Shepherdsville, KY and daughter, Kelli Kris (Dr. Mike Brumage) of Fairbanks, AK; brothers, Paul David (Patty) Caseman of Tucson, AZ, Kent Caseman of Marietta, GA and Chris (Nancy) Caseman of Dumfries, VA; two great grandchildren, Fowler Short and Sloane Short.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Caseman.

Friends received 4-8 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Furbee Williams Funeral Home, 217 Main St., Middlebourne, WV where services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2024 with burial to follow in Middlebourne Cemetery.
