Robert Edwin Butler, 78, of Wheeling, WV passed away on April 14, 2025 at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital.

Born April 29, 1946 in Moultrie, GA to James Butler and Jane (Jameson) Butler, the family moved to Wheeling, WV when he was 10 years old. He and his brother, James William Butler, grew up on Sandscrest Boy Scout Camp in Wheeling, where his father was the Ranger. Bob became an Eagle Scout. He attended Triadelphia High School and played football. His alma mater is West Liberty University.

Bob met Patricia Bailer when they were 19. They married the following year and celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on February 4, 2025.

Shortly after their marriage, Bob became a District Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts, in Mansfield, OH. Continuing work with the scouts for many years, the couple and their infant son, Jason, moved to Winter Haven, FL where their son, Jerod, was born. They then moved to Dayton, OH before returning to Wheeling permanently where they purchased a home in Elm Grove.

Bob left the Scouting profession to work as Assistant Manager and Salesman for Norteman Packing Co. until it closed and then worked for Sledd Co. He was a Youth Services Coordinator for Workforce WV before accepting an offer from Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, in recruitment and sales, for their heavy equipment, truck driving, and computer technology programs. A stroke in 2015 necessitated retirement.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, James Butler & Jane (Jameson) Butler (Bristol, VA); and a sister, Cordelia McDaniels (Cleveland, OH).

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Bailer) Butler (Wheeling, WV); sons, Jason (Kate) Butler (Berkley Springs, WV) and Jerod Butler (St. Clairsville, OH); grandsons, Austin (Cassidy) Butler (Adena, OH) and Pearce Butler (Adena, OH); and a granddaughter, Emma Butler (Berkley Springs, WV).

There will be no visitation. A service will be held for immediate family and friends at Mt. Calvary Chapel in Wheeling at the convenience of the family. Kepner Funeral Home in Elm Grove is handling arrangements.
