Firefighters respond to a blaze at 7 Balsam Drive in Triadelphia on Friday afternoon. Residents of the home escaped, but one was transported to a local hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The West Liberty Fire Department extinguished a house fire at 7 Balsam Drive in Triadelphia Friday afternoon.

All people inside the house were able to escape, according to West Liberty Fire Chief Darin Leach, but one was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation and in an unknown condition.

The fire was caused by a heat lamp that fell over in a lizard cage, Leach said. Several pets were inside the home at the time of the fire, and one deceased pet was seen being carried out in a blanket by a resident.

The West Liberty Volunteer Fire Department received the call for help just after 2 p.m. Friday. The fire was mostly out by 3:30 p.m., when officials were checking the house for potential structural safety hazards after the blaze.

The Clearview Volunteer Fire Department, Triadelphia Volunteer Fire Department and West Liberty Volunteer Fire Departments responded initially. After a second alarm, Valley Grove Volunteer Fire Department and Windsor Heights Volunteer Fire Department responded as well.

Starting at $2.99/week.
