Ron Witt Named a ‘Habitat Hero’ by Wheeling Area Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors

Cementing a tradition that began last year, the executive committee of the Wheeling Area Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors has recognized a current board member as “Habitat’s Hero” for 2017.

Ron Witt of Wheeling was recognized at a board meeting held earlier this month for his dedication to Habitat for Humanity. Brenda Steiniger, Wheeling Area Habitat executive director, said, “Ron always is available to help and does so with a smile. His constant service is invaluable to the organization.”

Witt joined the Habitat board of directors in 2013, has served on the resource committee and currently is active on the special events committee. Robert DeFrancis, Wheeling Area Habitat board president, said, “Having an eager volunteer such as Ron Witt is rare indeed. He is highly deserving of this recognition.”

The Wheeling native is a graduate of West Liberty University where he earned a bachelor of science in business administration with a specialization in travel and tourism management. He continued his education at West Virginia University, where he received his executive master’s degree of business administration.

Witt worked as a sales executive for Oglebay Park before being hired as manager and director of the Wheeling Artisan Center by the Wheeling National Heritage Area Corp., now known as Wheeling Heritage. He returned to his alma mater in 1997 as director of alumni association for West Liberty University, a position he has held for more than 20 years.

Witt’s current title is executive director of alumni and community relations. He also has fundraising responsibilities and is manager of the Liberty Oaks Alumni House Bed and Breakfast on the West Liberty campus.

In addition, Witt is a real estate agent with Kennen & Kennen Realtors in Wheeling. He began his career in real estate in 2012 and was awarded “Rookie of the Year” by the Wheeling Board of Realtors.
