W.Va. delegation split on health care bill

AP
POSTED: November 9, 2009
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia's representatives in the U.S. House split along party lines when it came time to vote on overhauling the country's health care system.

Democrats Nick Rahall and Alan Mollohan voted with the majority in the narrow, five-vote victory for the far-reaching legislation.

Republican Shelley Moore Capito voted against the bill. In a statement, she said it will cost taxpayers too much and raise taxes on small businesses.

Rahall says he voted for the legislation because it will control health insurance costs and provide coverage to almost all Americans.

The bill is now before the Senate, which has yet to schedule debate on its own plan to overhaul health care.
