NEW CUMBERLAND - Authorities believe they have found the body of a missing New Cumberland teen following weeks of searching.
Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher said a local ground search on Monday, assisted by a search and rescue team from Tyler County, located what they believe to be the body of Anthony Pittman in a small, steep ravine in a wooded area approximately 300 yards from the family's property.
"We have notified Anthony Pittman's family of the possibility that his body was recovered," he said.
Although evidence recovered nearby suggests the body is that of Pittman, Fletcher said, detectives traveled to Charleston to gain additional information as to a cause of death and a positive identification from the West Virginia Medical Examiner's Office.
Pittman was reported missing May 29. Pittman's family offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to his safe return.
Fletcher received several tips on Pittman's whereabouts, including information that he may have been in North Carolina.
