Wheeling police arrested Randolph Michael Smith and Lauren Cree Jenkins at 6:20 p.m. Thursday in connection with a March 26 armed robbery at the Booker T. Washington Apartments.

Smith, of Wheeling, and Jenkins, of Martins Ferry, are charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery after being identified by police as the two people who pushed their way into the Chapline Street public housing facility and allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint.

The two were taken to the Northern Regional Jail at Moundsville, pending arraignment before an Ohio County magistrate.

According to a police report on the day of the crime, the pair allegedly forced their way into the woman's apartment when she opened the door to see who had knocked on it. The resident said the man ordered her to the floor while pointing a gun at her. The male demanded money from the woman and he was able to take cash from the woman's purse.

The pair then left the apartment. According to police, the woman was not injured during the alleged robbery.

Randall Geese, executive director of the Wheeling Housing Authority, said anyone entering the building must be "buzzed in," and sometimes a resident might answer a buzzer without checking to see who is trying to get into the building. He said the building has security cameras throughout the interior and exterior of the structure.
