Silver Knights Have Plethora of Pitchers

MIDDLEBOURNE - Softball is a pitcher-dominated sport. So what does Tyler Consolidated coach Samantha Livingston feel about having five?

"I still haven't figured that out," Livingston said with a laugh. "We have two older girls and plan on working in the younger ones. They are strong but they need experience. But I like having a rotation."

Twins Jasmine and Devinn Moore will anchor the starting lineup to begin the season with freshmen Vanessa Templeton, Madison West and Kylie Martin likely to see work in the circle as the season goes on.

According to Livingston, there is no telling the difference between the Moore sisters - in appearance and play.

"I just point and tell one to go where I need her to," she joked. "They are exactly identical and pitch like it. They have been doing it the same way together since they were 8 years old."

When not pitching, Jasmine will play third base and Devinn will man first.

Bailey Longwell will be the backup at first.

Four-year starter Alex Bubenchik will call the game at catcher.

"She will lead them, she is a really good leader," Livingston said of Bubenchik. "She knows how to make them feel better and make them work harder. She knows all the pitchers, what to call, when to call it, sees and understands the game as well as anyone."

Lilly Orr, a junior starter from last season, will play second base. Martin and freshman Padyn Clem will push her there.

Kaylie Shanabarger will play the hot corner, while Martin and West are battling at shortstop.

The outfield will be made up of Shandi Long (left), Bailey Smith (right), and either Tiffany Smith or Megan Carpenter in center
