WHEELING - The Wheeling Nailers signed forward Alexandre Carrier to an ECHL contract Monday.
Carrier, 22, is currently in the midst of his second professional season, after spending the entire 2012-13 campaign with the Trenton Titans. During his rookie season, Carrier established himself as a physical player, as his 14 fighting majors ranked first on the Titans and tied for eighth in the ECHL. After a bit of a slow start on the scoresheet, the St-Elzear-de-Beauce, QC, native finished the year with one goal and six points, tallying five of his six points during February and March.
Prior to turning pro, Carrier spent three seasons with the QMJHL's Val-d'Or Foreurs and 10 games with Salzburg EC in Austria. In 141 career games with the Foreurs, Carrier accumulated eight goals, 20 assists, 28 points and 231 penalty minutes, while also recording two goals and two assists in four playoff contests.
This season, the 6-foot-3 forward has appeared in six games with the Elmira Jackals and two games with the CHL's Wichita Thunder, tacking 10 more penalty minutes onto his career totals.
Carrier will wear No. 26, and could make his Wheeling debut as early as Thursday night, when the Nailers play host to Elmira at 7 p.m.
