Election Involves Important Issues

November 4, 2013
By The Intelligencer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Scores of issues important to people in East Ohio communities will be decided during the election Tuesday. While ballots will feature no big national or state races, it still is important to vote.

Municipal, township and county tax issues will range from those to support cemetery maintenance to others funding libraries. In addition, several questions concerning alcoholic beverage sales in localities will be put to voters.

Most important are the school levy issues, affecting thousands of East Ohio residents. Each and every one of them is important. Some, such as those in the Switzerland of Ohio and Bellaire school districts, involve what education officials say are critical shortages of money.

It has become much easier during recent years for Ohioans to participate in elections and levy referendums. Ballots can be cast both in person and by mail before elections. In Belmont, Jefferson, Monroe and Harrison counties, thousands of people have taken advantage of those methods.

It you are a registered voter who has not yet cast a ballot, however, we urge you to do so in person on Tuesday. Polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., so you should be able to fit voting into your schedule. Please do so. It is both a right and a responsibility - and it's important.
