WHEELING - Law enforcement in Alabama on Wednesday arrested Steven Clay Kyle Jr., who is wanted locally for attempted murder in connection with the shooting of another man on Wheeling Island last month.
Kyle, a 22-year-old resident of Cleveland, was in the custody of the Etowah County Sheriff's Department at press time.
He was arrested by police in Gadsden, Ala., a city about 50 miles northeast of Birmingham.

Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger did not know the circumstances of Kyle's arrest or what he was doing in Alabama. Gadsden police did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.
Alabama authorities contacted Wheeling police around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to say they had Kyle in custody.
Wheeling police confirmed they had an active warrant for Kyle and said they were willing to seek his extradition back to West Virginia.
According to court officials in Alabama, an extradition hearing had not been scheduled at press time.
Kyle allegedly shot Darrelle Strowder multiple times in his upper body on Sept. 21 while the two were inside a home at 22 Vermont St. Strowder, 27, also of Cleveland, was transported to a local hospital and survived.
Kyle himself was shot at the same home on Vermont Street nearly a year ago. No arrests have been made in that shooting.
Police said Kyle and Strowder frequently stay in the Wheeling area and live with various residents during their time here. It is not known what they were doing in Wheeling at the time of the shooting.
