DOTY, Mark J., 28, of Proctor, WV, formerly of Paden City, WV, went home to his Lord Wednesday, September 18, 2013, as the result of an accident.
Mark was born June 30, 1985, in Wheeling, WV, son of Larry and Sandra Casto Doty.
Mark was the director of the WVU State Fire Academy at Jackson Mill. He was elected as Vice President of North American Fire Training Directors and was a member of the WV State Fire Chiefs' Association. Mark expanded the WVU Junior Fire Fighters Camp to be number one in the nation.
He won numerous awards for fire fighting education and was instrumental in the development of the Instructor Course for WVU, along with several other pioneering courses.
Mark was the GPO for the State of WV, representing the Southeastern Division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He was successful in acquiring grants for fire departments across WV.
Mark was a 15-year member of the Paden City Volunteer Fire Company, serving as Lieutenant. He also fought fires with numerous fire departments across WV.
Mark was a graduate of Paden City High School and received a Bachelor of Arts from Fairmont State University, where he played football. He was a devoted member of the Proctor Church of Christ, as well as a devoted husband, son, brother and uncle.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Nikki Rutan Doty; sister, Meghann (W. Michael) Ferrell of Charleston, WV; niece, Amaya Ferrell; nephew, Solomon Ferrell; father and mother-in-law, Olan and Trish Rutan; sister-in-law, Jessie Rutan (Adam Robinson); paternal grandmother, Blanche Doty; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Friends received 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2013, at the Jarvis - Williams Funeral Home in Paden City.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Paden City.
Interment to be held at the convenience of the family.
