BALTICH, Sarah (Sikey) Jean, 88, of Weirton passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Mary Ann Manor in Follansbee, WV.
Born September 1, 1925, in Weirton, she was the daughter of the late William "Vajeo" and Mildred Divich Lalich.
Sarah was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, George; her sisters, Nadlie Fouty, Zora Lalich and Mary Dadasovich; her brothers, Zion Dadasovich, Sam Lalich and Daniel Lalich.
Surviving are her daughters, Dawn Noble (Dr. William E.) of Valley Grove, WV, Lynn Baltich and her companion, V. Jim Kropf of Pittsburgh; sister, Ann Lalich of Weirton; brother-in-law, Mitch (Shirlee) Baltich of Weirton; brother-in-law, Charles (Nora) Baltich of California; sister-in-law, Nancy L. Baltich of Weirton; and sister-in-law, Jo Ann Thompson (Mac); and many nieces and nephews from Weirton, California, Ohio, and Florida.
Sarah was a homemaker most of her life except for 17 years as an employee of Marlinn's Shoes at the Plaza and subsequent manager. As a homemaker, "Sikey" was best known for her skill at baking. Everyone who knew her loved her nut rolls and apricot cookies which kept her quite busy at the holidays.
In the summer, she blessed her family with her homemade pies and strudel. She was a mother who always gave of her self to her family and their needs. She, like her husband, was an avid golfer and member of Pleasant Valley Country Club where she played in the ladies league.
Sarah was a life-long member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church as well as the long time member of the Petar Krstich Choir. She also served the church in the ladies organization the KSS Vidovdan. She enjoyed singing in the choir and traveling with the choir for their many festivals.
The family will receive friends and family Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, where the funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Saturday. V. Rev. Fr. Rade Merick will officiate. Interment will be in the Serbian Cemetery, Weirton.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Mary Ann Manor, but especially those of Valley Hospice and D and D Quality Care, where Sarah spent the last 6 years.
