Murray scores in OT to boost Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Rookie defenseman Ryan Murray scored 4:38 into overtime to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets past the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 on Sunday night in the preseason opener for both teams.

Murray took a feed from R.J. Umberger and beat backup goalie Jeff Zatkott. Murray was the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NHL draft but missed the season with a shoulder injury.

Chuck Kobasew got Pittsburgh even 4-4 at 13:05 of the third period with a power-play goal - his second tally of the game. Mark Letestu and Cam Atkinson scored 30 seconds apart earlier in the period to give Columbus a 4-3 lead.

Dustin Jeffrey's power-play goal for Pittsburgh had made it 3-2 at 4:19.

Pittsburgh's James Neal opened the scoring 47 seconds in. Columbus' Artem Anisimov and James Wisniewski had goals in the first period.

Marc-Andre Fleury allowed two goals on 12 shots, and Curtis McElhinney made 24 saves for the Blue Jackets in two periods of work.

Blues 6, Stars 5, SO

DALLAS (AP) - Vladimir Tarasenko scored the only goal in a shootout to give the St. Louis Blues a victory aganst the Dallas Stars.

Tarasenko flipped the puck over the shoulder of Jack Campbell and into the upper left corner of the net.

First-round draft pick Valeri Nichushkin scored two goals to give Dallas leads of 4-3 and 5-4.

The Blues tied it 5-5 on Ryan Reaves' goal with 8:57 remaining in the third period.

Dallas took a 2-0 lead 4 minutes into the game on goals by Erik Cole and Kevin Connauton, but the first period ended in a 2-2 tie after newly acquired Maxim Lapierre scored twice for St. Louis.

Tyler Seguin scored on a second-period power play in his Stars debut.

Sabres 5, Canadiens 4, SO

MONTREAL (AP) - Mikhail Grigorenko's shootout goal lifted the Buffalo Sabres to a victory against the Montreal Canadiens in the preseason opener for both teams.

Grigorenko beat Zachary Fucale with a backhand on Buffalo's second attempt in the tiebreaker.

The Sabres, who never led, erased four one-goal deficits. Colton Gillies got the Sabres even at 4 with 4:24 left in regulation.

Zemgus Girgensons scored two goals in the second for Buffalo, making it 3-3 at 11:51 on the first shot faced by Fucale. Jamie McBain also scored for the Sabres.

Michael Bournival scored twice for the Canadiens. Martin St-Pierre netted Montreal's second power-play goal at 12:59 into the third to give the Canadiens a 4-3 lead.

Erik Nystrom added a power-play goal for Montreal.

Maple Leafs 4, Flyers 3

LONDON, Ontario (AP) - Nazem Kadri and Mason Raymond both had a goal and an assist for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who opened their preseason schedule with a victory against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Toronto jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period in a span of 3:05.

Kadri scored first, and Troy Bodie doubled the Maple Leafs' lead against goalie Steve Mason. Raymond made it 3-0.

Philadelphia rebounded quickly with a goal from Doug Clarkson in the first, and tallies by Brayden Schenn and Nick Cousins early in the second to tie it.

Paul Ranger put Toronto ahead to stay 4-3 when he scored against goalie Anthony Stolarz, converting a rebound on a give-and-go effort by Kadri and David Broll in the second.

James Reimer stopped 14 of 17 Flyers shots that he faced. Mason made 12 saves on 15 Maple Leafs attempts.
