McMECHEN - A 14-year-old McMechen boy was critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle that left the scene in McMechen on Sunday night.
According to McMechen Police Chief David Robinson, the boy was riding his bicycle near the intersection of Marshall and 12th streets at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when the accident occurred.
The vehicle was traveling south on Marshall Street when it collided with the boy.
The teen was taken to a local hospital where he was stablilized and then airlifted by medical helicopter to UPMC in Pittsburgh where his condition was not known at press time.
This morning, the police chief said McMechen police have not received any communication from the hospital since the boy was taken to the Pittsburgh facility.
Robinson said the motorist suspected in the accident, a McMechen woman, has come forward and has been cooperating with police during the investigation.
He said that although she had not been charged as of this morning, he expects charges to be filed in Marshall County Magistrate Court. Robinson said the charges will include leaving the scene of an accident and failure to aid.
