Shop at Small Businesses

Editor, News-Register:

We are bombarded with choices these days. Where to send our children to school, where to go on vacation, where to eat, and where to shop are a few. If you look around, our choices are being limited due to our shopping habits. Small business are struggling to survive these days. An example of this is shopping for aquarium supplies the other day. Many of the small pet stores are gone. My choices were limited.

In the past few months I have made an effort to choose small businesses. To my delight I have received great individualized service, quality products, nice conversations, and all around a very positive experience.

Here is my challenge: Give a small business of the valley a shot. If you are an office manager take your business to a small office supply store for the next three months. If you are not satisfied then go back to your original choice. If you are throwing a party or fund raiser, shop at a small party supply store.

It is amazing how many small businesses we have in Elm Grove, Warwood, and yes, Wheeling. So instead of taking the drive, stop in and see if your neighbor has what you need.

These small business owners support your business by utilizing your professional office - turnabout is fair play. Remember the Golden Rule - Do unto others as you would like them to do to you.

And do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.
