Harold Thomas

THOMAS, Harold O., 83 of Wheeling, WV, died on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at home.

He was born April 5, 1930 in Marietta, OH, the son of the late Ernest W. and Laura Ridgeway Thomas.

Harold was a college graduate of Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX where he was a three year letterman in basketball and in 1952 he captained the Wildcats to the Texas Conference Championship. He later received the outstanding Alumni Award.

He retired in 1995 as president of the former Wheeling National Bank in Wheeling, WV, and then on June 1, 2013 he retired as a senior business development officer at Progressive Bank in Wheeling, WV.

He was a long time member of the Church of Christ in Wheeling, WV where he served as an elder for over 40 years. He was a long standing member and past president of the Wheeling Rotary Club, a past member and past treasurer of the FOPA 38 and a past member and past treasurer of the American Legion Post 1. Through the years, Harold was an active member of the Wheeling Community having served on many boards.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah "Opal" Cunningham Thomas and two brothers, Clair and Cecil Thomas.

Surviving are his two daughters, Kim Truax and her husband, Todd of Kansas City, MO and Andrea Thomas Carter of Wheeling, WV with whom Harold resided; a granddaughter, Molly Uribe and her husband, Henry; a grandson, Carter Truax and his wife, Halie; a great granddaughter, Kerrington Uribe; several sister-in- laws and brother-in-laws including his sister-in-law, Joanna Thomas and a brother-in-law, Charles Cunningham; several nieces and nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews including J. and Shaylyn Massey.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Church of Christ, 1310 National Rd, Wheeling, WV.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Valley University, c/o the Harold and Opal Thomas Nursing and Science Scholarship Fund, 1 Campus View Dr, Vienna, WV 26105-8000.
