With the exclamatory three-word statement of "This is it!" heading his celebrated and much-heralded column in the Sunday, June 2, 2013, edition of the News-Register, noted reporter/columnist Al Molnar informed his legion of loyal readers that he had decided, after more than 60 years in the "newspaper business," to retire.
Although no one is more deserving than Mr. Molnar to fully enjoy the more peaceful and serene lifestyle of a retiree, as a long-time avid reader of his uniquely informative weekly column, I am somewhat saddened by the fact that we will no longer have his informative observations to look forward to every Sunday morning.
In his nearly 60 years with the News-Register, he has authored his wonderful column, "Around Eastern Ohio," for the previous 30-plus years.
Through his outstanding work over his many years of service to the area, Mr. Molnar has reached iconic status. He is highly respected and well-liked by his loyal readers and colleagues alike.
Very few, indeed, have had such a positive impact on their chosen profession in the area as has Al Molnar.
Although I certainly respect Mr. Molnar's decision to retire, I would like to request that he may possibly consider not completely closing the chapter of his professional career and continue to keep us so well informed in a manner more compatible with his personal responsibilities and current lifestyle.
Regardless, the positive impact the career of Al Molnar has had will continue to be felt in the years to come.
Professionals the caliber of Al Molnar are, without question, extremely rare.
I extend my sincerest gratitude and congratulations to Mr. Molnar for his awe-inspiring work and stellar career in the field of journalism.
