Dr. James and Jane Newton of Belmont celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday, May 21.
They were united in marriage May 21, 1963 in North Carolina.
Jane Newton is retired from Belmont County Department of Human Services, Child Support Division.
Newton was the dean at Ohio University Eastern from 1983 until he retired in 2005. He still teaches part-time Internet courses at OUE.
They are the parents of three daughters and a son. The family includes Jamie Lawler and her husband, Ron, of Alpharetta, Ga.; Jodie Kappers and her husband, Jacco, also of Alpharetta; Jason and his wife Lori, of St. Clairsville and Jennifer Cook and her husband, Scott, of Seven Fields, Pa. They have nine grandchildren.
The Newton children gave the couple a reception for their anniversary. They celebrated with a recent family gathering in Punta Gorda, Fla., the Newtons' winter home location. Also celebrating this special occasion were Jimmy and Renee Remsen, Jane Newton's brother and sister-in-law, of Williamsville, N.Y.
