WLU softball splits twinbill

WEST LIBERTY - The West Liberty University softball team split a West Virginia Conference doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan Sunday afternoon at the WLU Softball Complex.

Coach Jim Bacca's Hilltoppers (13-29, 6-14) handed the Bobcats (24-18, 11-9) a 4-2 loss in the opener with Wesleyan bouncing back for a 12-0 win in the finale.

WJU softball swept by D&E

WHEELING -The Wheeling Jesuit softball team dropped doubleheader against Davis and Elkins College by scores of 3-0 and 4-3, respectively.

Allecia Sunagel and Ali Smith recorded the Cardinals only hits in the opener while pitcher Ashley Nichols received the complete game loss.

Erika Jusko tossed the complete game, allowing four runs on eight hits with one strikeout in the second game.

Bison lose two to Capital

BETHANY - The Bethany College softball team ran into a red-hot Capital University squad, as the Crusaders swept the non-conference doubleheader from the Bison by scores of 9-3 and 10-2 in five innings.

The setbacks dropped BC to 17-17 for the year, while Capital, who leads the Ohio Athletic Conference, ran its winning streak to nine games and improved to 26-8.

WLU baseball wins in 11th

WEST LIBERTY - Andrew Henry singled home Josh Nagel with two out in the bottom of the 11th to give the West Liberty baseball team a 6-5 walk-off victory against Alderson-Broaddus at Kovalick Field.

Sunday's victory in the scheduled 9-inning game came at a good time for Coach Eric Burkle's Hilltoppers (19-22, 16-13), who strengthened their hold on third place in the West Virginia Conference North Division standings heading into the final week of the season.

WJU baseball splits with FSU

WHEELING - The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team split a doubleheader with Fairmont State University on Senior Day at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex.

Jesuit fell 4-1 in eight innings of play in the first game, and bounced back for a 3-1 game two victory. The Cardinals recognized eight individuals between games as Corey Hull, Jordan Kraus, Cory Wickham, Tim Geibel, Robbie Davia, Jordan Medley, Nick Briski and Parker Lang played their final home weekend series.

Wheeling Central lacrosse wins

WHEELING -Wheeling Central's Brian Felton and Michael Tighe each scored four goals to help rally the Maroon Knights past visiting Westerville South, 11-8, at Wheeling Island Stadium.

Mason Huffman added two goals for the Maroon Knights while Thomas Stanley notched one goal.

Central plays host to city rival Wheeling Park at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Wheeling Island Stadium.
