Suspects Sought in Pub Burglary

April 4, 2013
By TYLER REYNARD Staff Writer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

An employee at Carin's Pub was counting hundreds of dollars in plain view of two unfamiliar patrons Tuesday morning - minutes before the bar was entered and robbed, police said.

According to Wheeling Deputy Police Chief Martin Kimball, officers responded to a burglar alarm at the bar on Chapline Street around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.

They were met by a nearby resident, who said he had heard the alarm and notified the bar owner.

Officers learned that two unknown males entered the bar around midnight and sat near the cash register.

The two employees working Tuesday told investigators they had never seen the men in the building before that night.

Near closing time, the suspects were sitting nearby as one of the employees counted the bar's cash, about $1,600, in plain view, Kimball said.

Officers determined the suspects entered the building through the video poker room.

An employee recalled one of the men walking into that room prior to closing time. Kimball said the entry was not forced.
