GLEN DALE - Brad Howard takes over coaching duties for the John Marshall tennis as the boys' team is looking forward to a good year behind junior Hayden Blazer.
In his sophomore season, Blazer placed third in the regional tournament to advance to the state competition for the second straight year.
''It'll be tougher for him this year,'' Howard pointed out. ''With the addition of Parkersburg and Parkersburg South to the region, it'll be a tough season. They are the top two schools in the state.''
The Monarch's No. 2 seed will be senior John Miller. Miller has been on the JM squad all four years, but it still looking for the chance to compete in the state tournament.
Freshman Tyler Keller will handle No. 3 duties.
''He looks really good,'' Howard said of Keller. ''He's a contender for sure. He's really progressing quick.''
Second year players and juniors Ralph Howl and Austin Litman are currently battling for the team's No. 4 seed.
No 1. doubles will consist of Blazer and Keller, while Miller will have one of the two spots on the No. 2 squad.
On the girls' side, junior Alana Paully returns and will be the team's No. 1 seed.
Senior Brittany Anderson will be the No. 2 seed in her third year, while second-year player Anna Tordella will be in the No. 3 sport for her junior season.
Fellow second-year player and junior Samantha Rulong will see action as the team's fourth seed.
''We'll have a good season,'' Howard said. ''I don't think we'll knock the doors down or anything, but it'll be a competitive year.''
