WHEELING - While he's still putting the finishing touches on his roster, fourth-year Linsly boys' track and field coach James Cowart is excited about this season's potential.
''We lost a lot of talented people off of last year's team,'' Cowart said. ''But we also return many talented guys.
''The standard has been set and it's going to be interesting to see of this group will uphold that.''
The Cadets brought home plenty of hardware last year. Linsly was the OVAC Class 2A champion. Also, Linsly was a winner at the Shadyside Relays, the Doan Ford Relays and in the Ohio Valley Track League.
Lost to graduation were Ricky Jordan, Mark Dodd, Chris Stephens and Akil Blount.
Seniors on the team include: Michael Hammond, Chinelo Oparanozie, Jamall Ebanks Kay Ogundrian, Robert Idowu and Rainer Whiteside.
Representatives of the junior class include: Luke Miller, Robert Felton, Hunter Brown and Benton Nanners.
Chimechi Oparanozie, Chuck Chuckwu and Eric Dodd are the sophomores, while Nick Hurley, Sam Doe and Brady Nanners help comprise the freshman group.
Sprints will be again a source of strength with Ebanks, Chinelo Oparanozie and Felton.
Hurley, Brady Nanners, Brown and Whiteside will be featured in the hurdles, with Hammond and Miller threats in the distance events.
Dodd, Chimechi Oparanozie and Chuckwu are the leaders in the throwing events.
Heading up the jumping events will be Idowu, Ogundrian and Benton Nanners.
Cowart is assisted by Brian Valentine (throws) and Dave Plumby (distance).
