GANTZER, Bernard C., 79, of Wheeling, WV, died Monday, March 18, 2013 in Wheeling Hospital.
He was born July 31, 1933 in Wheeling, a son of the late Fred P. and Clara Strauss Gantzer.
He was a former employee of the R.L. Polk Co., a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling, Holy Name Society, volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Kevin Alan Gantzer; three brothers, Fred, Ray and Edward Gantzer.
Bernie loved teaching life lessons and sharing his love for the outdoors with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine Huffman Gantzer; three children, Ty C. (Tracy) Gantzer of Westerville, OH, Shay A. (Michael) VanKirk of Wheeling, Michelle M. (Eric) Kratzer of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Rosemary McGee of Wheeling, Theresa Holler of Wheeling; seven grandchildren, Sarah and Kevin VanKirk, Gabby, Tyler and Danielle Gantzer, Troy and Michael Kratzer; many nieces and nephews.
Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Wheeling, where Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wheeling.
Interment with Military Honors in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
