MOUNT MORRIS, Pa. - A Bethesda man was killed Sunday morning in Greene County, Pa., when the tractor-trailer he was driving overturned along Interstate 79 near Mount Morris, Pa.

Franklin E. Jeffers, 61, was travelling south on I-79 about 1 mile from the West Virginia-Pennsylvania state line at 8:35 a.m. when the accident occurred at mile marker 1.35, according to a report released by Greene County Coroner Gregory P. Rohanna.

The semi left the roadway on the west side and struck the guardrail, turning the tractor-trailer onto its top and side. Jeffers was trapped inside the vehicle, and Rohanna pronounced him dead at 9:45 a.m., the report states.

The tractor-trailer was a tanker truck, and the contents of the tank leaked onto the roadway. Hazardous materials and Greene County emergency management teams were called in to assist.

The wreckage remained along the roadside into Sunday evening as the Pennsylvania State Police continued to investigate.

Assisting at the scene were the Mount Morris Fire Department, EMS Southwest, Greene County Emergency Management and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
