CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bethany College softball team suffered a pair of defeats Sunday on its second day in Florida, dropping an 8-1 decision to Wisconsin-Eau Claire before losing a 4-3 heartbreaker to Manchester.
In the initial game of the day, Eau Claire scored runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 advantage. The Bison got on the scoreboard in a big way in the top of the fourth when Maria Vallone belted a solo home run. It was the only run of the game for BC and Eau Claire pulled away with a run in the fourth and five more in the sixth to secure the triumph.
The Bison were held to three hits in the game, including Vallone's long ball and singles from Kayla Kelly and Lizzie Newhouse.
Emily Jump suffered the pitching loss and struck out one in six innings of action.

BETHANY - Wheeling Jesuit improved to 6-2 overall after defeating the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill at Bison Stadium. The Cardinals battled back-and-forth for the first two periods, but opened the second half with three unanswered goals en route to the victory.
Brian Frank led the Cardinals' offense with six points on four assists and two goals.
Landon DelPrince and Tyler Buchan followed with three goals apiece. In addition, DelPrince set a career milestone by eclipsing the career 100-point plateau with 61 goals and 41 assists.
Bryce Brochu added a 3-point performance with two assists and one goal, and Connor Summers notched two goals.
Sean Wright and Rob Mills rounded out the scoring with one goal each while Kevin Figaniak had two assists and Aaron Gutentag chipped in one.
