BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Kyle McPherson gave up three runs in the third inning, and the Baltimore Orioles held on for a 6-3 victory Friday night at McKechnie Field.

Wei-Yin Chen allowed two runs, one earned, over 2 1-3 innings in his second start for Baltimore.

With the score tied at 1, McPherson hit leadoff batter Alexi Casilla in the third and walked Ryan Flaherty. Jason Pridie hit a one-out RBI single, Travis Ishikawa doubled in a run and Trayvon Robinson drove in another with a single.

It was McPherson's third start of the spring. Pittsburgh's 2011 minor league pitcher of the year is fighting for a spot in the rotation.

Starling Marte was 2 for 2 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored for the Pirates.

Capuano effective before Reds, Dodgers rained out

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Chris Capuano pitched four solid innings and Ramon Castro hit a three-run homer for the Dodgers before their split-squad game against the Cincinnati Reds was rained out with Los Angeles leading 3-1 on Friday night.

The game was called after four innings, the second rainout of the day for both teams. Earlier at Scottsdale Stadium, rain and hail ended a Dodgers-Giants game in the second inning with Los Angeles ahead 4-0. Cincinnati's other split squad was tied 1-all with the Chicago Cubs in the second inning Friday night before that game was called.

Indians, Royals called off by rain

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - The Cleveland Indians spring training game against a Kansas City Royals split squad was rained out Friday.

The game was called with Kansas City leading 3-2 with two out in the top of the third. Indians right fielder Drew Stubbs had a home run and double before the rain arrived.

The Royals say right-hander Wade Davis is suffering shoulder soreness and has been scratched from a Saturday start against San Francisco.

The Indians say outfielder Michael Brantley should return to the lineup Sunday after getting 15 stitches in his left forearm following a slide into third base on Feb. 25.
