The Brooke County Sheriff's Department is seeking information about an apparent murder Tuesday at a Genteel Ridge home near McKinleyville.
Brooke County Sheriff Chuck Jackson said Jason Pratz, 30, was found dead from a gunshot wound at his home at about 1:40 p.m. by a visitor who called authorities?
"It's being treated as a homicide investigation," said Jackson, noting no motive or suspects had been identified.
"We're going to leave nothing unturned here. It's tragic," said Jackson, who had met Pratz and described him as a "nice guy."
Jackson said he didn't want to disclose details of the death because that could affect the recollections of people who may come forward with information. Anyone with information should call the sheriff's department at 304-527-1430 or 304-737-3660.
Jackson confirmed Pratz was pronounced dead at the scene after area first responders arrived. His body was transported to the state Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The sheriff's department is working with a task force and the West Virginia State Police laboratory on the case.
The Brooke County Ambulance Service and first responders from the McKinleyville and Bethany fire departments were dispatched to the scene.
