Moore Returns as GOP Chief

February 19, 2013
By JOSELYN KING Political Writer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Kent Moore is again chairman of the Belmont County Republican Party.

The county GOP's executive committee chose Moore to replace outgoing Chairwoman Diana Kennon.

Moore previously served as chairman from 2005 until early 2011, when he resigned to take a job as field representative for U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio. During his past tenure as chairman, Moore established the Belmont County Republican Party's headquarters at the former Cherry Tree Toys building on Jefferson Street in Belmont, and helped form the regional East Ohio GOP Chairman's Association.

The Belmont County GOP was named county Republican party organization of the year in Ohio in 2009 by state party leaders.

Moore spent more than a year with Portman's office before leaving the job last year. He is retired from AT&T.

"I was asked if I would come back and take over as chairman," Moore said. "Diana has done a great job, but there were other commitments she had to take of."

Kennon couldn't be reached for comment.

Moore holds the distinction of having been a Republican Party chairman in two counties. Prior to his stint as chairman in his native Belmont County, Moore served as chairman in Clermont County.

"I have a passion for it," he said of politics. "I am concerned about what's going on in government - especially at the local level. I would like to move the party forward even more. We have made progress, and there is plenty of room to grow and do even more for the county."

The Belmont County Republican Party's annual Lincoln Dinner is set for April 22 at Undo's West in St. Clairsville. Doors open at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The featured speaker is Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon Kennedy.

Those seeking tickets or to volunteer time with the party should call Moore at 740-686-2768.
