PETHTEL, Betty L. (Oliver), 81, of Mounds-ville, WV, died Monday, February 11, 2013, in Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV, surrounded in the love of her children.
She was born April 2, 1931, in Burton, WV, the daughter of the late Harry E. and Alice Roberts Oliver.
Betty was a retired office employee of the former Louis Marx Toy Co.; former secretary of Warden Skeen at the Moundsville Penitentiary from 1949-1953; a member of the Hillview Terrace Church of Christ, Moundsville and the Miracle Valley CEOS. She was a 1949 graduate of Union High School, Benwood, and was elected as the first football Homecoming Queen for the school.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, Christian and friend. A born care-giver, Betty was generous to a fault, and put others' needs ahead of her own.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Garrett D. Pethtel, in 2006; a brother, Jim Oliver of Fairmont, WV.
Surviving are two daughters, Debra L. Pethtel of Moundsville and Robin (Jeff) Hohman of Wheeling; a son, Gary N. Pethtel of Tampa, FL; two nephews; two great-nieces; one great-nephew; several cousins; numerous friends; and her beloved dog and constant companion, Misha.
Friends will be received from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby- Vance Chapel, 118 Grant Ave., Moundsville, and from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Hillview Terrace Church of Christ, Moundsville.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.
