McDonald Charged With Stealing Purse

February 6, 2013
By J.W. JOHNSON JR. - Marshall County Bureau Chief , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Joseph Anthony McDonald of Glen Dale faces a felony charge of aggravated robbery after allegedly forcing his way into a vehicle and stealing a purse.

McDonald, 29, of 508 Tomlinson Ave. was arrested Jan. 31 for the incident, which allegedly took place Jan. 28.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Marshall County Magistrate Court, three women said they were driving when they were flagged down by McDonald, a friend of one of the women.

The women said after they stopped to talk with McDonald, he allegedly forced his way into the vehicle through the rear passenger door to take a purse that was sitting on the seat between two individuals.

A juvenile passenger grabbed the purse, but McDonald allegedly wrestled it away from her, driving her arm into the frame of the vehicle. McDonald then fled the area with the purse, which contained $100 in cash, several hundred dollars in gift cards and a diamond necklace and earrings.

When officers went to McDonald's home for questioning, he was wearing the same clothes as described by the victims.

McDonald told officers he had not left his home that day, except to walk to a convenience store. The clerk at the store confirmed to officers that McDonald had been there, and provided the same description of the clothing McDonald had been wearing.

Marshall County Magistrate Mark Kerwood set McDonald's bond at $20,000, and a preliminary hearing is set for Friday.
