Once again I find myself wondering what this country is becoming. I don't want anyone to think that I am blaming anything solely on this president and the rest of the government! This decline has been going on for years. I have just been paying more attention over the last 10 years or so. However, the politicians now, including the House, the Senate and the President have been going ahead full steam.
They speak out against each other in public though I tend to believe they are all too chummy behind the scenes. The money involved in Washington, D.C., between politicians and special interest groups is staggering, on both sides of every issue. The average American citizen, like myself, can't fathom what goes on down there. I get a headache just trying to research it.
The biggest problem I see is us, the American people. We keep electing these fools. Why are we so afraid to vote them out and bring in new people more often? The traditional American person, who works hard for what little they have, would be the biggest special interest group out there if we would stand up as one. I wonder if we have the courage to stand up as our forefathers did. They did what they had to do because they knew what was at stake. Does anyone know what's at stake today and does anybody care? I don't have the answers, and I'm not sure what I can do. I write these letters to vent my frustrations. Lately, I'm at a loss for words. I can't be the only person who feels this way, can I?
The fight for our Second Amendment rights being played out in the "media" and the lack of that so-called "media" coverage of our out of control spending, has me thinking we are on the losing side. In the past, the media held our politicians accountable for their actions, now they are rooting for them. This has come to a head over the last four to five years. I'm not sure where else we can go. The lines have become blurred and I am thinking only we, as Americans, can make those lines clear again. We must hold everyone in power accountable for their actions. Without our tax dollars, the government could not function. Without us, the media has no audience. Why do we sit back and let them dictate what is right for us? The majority of Americans, I think, know what is right. We know a government can't spend more than it takes in. We know the Constitution is the backbone of this Republic.
Benjamin Franklin had it correct when he said to that lady when he came out of Independence Hall, that they gave us a Republic, if WE can keep it. I know for a fact that I do not want to be known as the generation that lost it. Demand better from your elected officials. Demand better from your media. Demand better from yourself. If we don't stand up and protect the Constitution, how will the Constitution protect us?
