WHEELING - The depth of Linsly's swimming team propelled its boys to a pair of victories Monday evening while playing host to St. Clairsville and Weir during a double dual meet at Stifel Pool.

Meanwhile, St. Clairsville swept through to capture the girls' top spot.

Linsly coach Bill Brubaker said while a three-point loss to St. Clairsville on the girls' side (86-83) was a little tough, he was happy with the overall performance of his team.

Linsly’s Zach Hamm competes in the 100-yard butterfly, where he placed first in a meet featuring the Cadets, St. Clairsville, and Weir at Stifel Pool on Linsly’s campus.

"It was a good close meet,'' he said. ''The kids swam well. We worked really hard over Christmas break. I know our swimmers and some other swimmers were doing two-a-days for the last two weeks, with the idea that they're going to rest off of that work into the later part of the season with the championships coming up."

Linsly had five swimmers win both of their individual events. Zach Hamm won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.72, while posting a time of 1:03.19 in the backstroke.

Reese Boyd won the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.85 and the 500-yard freestyle at 5:19.57. Cameron Thompson posted winning times of 1:56.00 in the 200 freestyle and 53.95 in the 100 freestyle. Zoe Scarpone won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.41, while clocking in at 2:22.70 in the 200-yard IM, while Eve Scarpone won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:15.96, and claimed first in the breaststroke with a time of 1:19.63.

St. Clairsville coach Melanie Eaton, whose son Michael won both of his individual events for the Red Devils, said she was very happy with the team's overall performance.

"We're more evenly matched in numbers on the girls' side than the boys' side. Linsly just has so many more boys than we have," Eaton said.

"We're coming off of Christmas training working pretty hard, so nobody had any best times."

Michael Eaton won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23:42, while clocking in at 1:02.10 in the 100 breaststroke
