WELLSBURG - Swimming fans in attendance at the Brooke High Natatorium on Friday were in for a treat as several records were broken during the Brooke Winter Invitational.

A total of seven records fell during the nine-team invitational sponsored by Snack Brothers, with the first coming in just second event of the day, the boys 200 medley relay.

The meet record of 1:48.41 set by Wheeling Park in 2008 was actually broken twice as the Bridgeport team of Zach About, Logan Lehosit, Frank Csonka and Logan Lang finished first with a time of 1:47.27, nine-tenths of a second faster than the South Charleston group of Chris Canterbury, Austin Green, Adam Poe and Rashad Weiner could touch the wall.

Brooke’s Sara Riggs competes in the 100m backstroke. She finished in 1:12.55, and the Bruins earned fourth place.

The 200 freestyle record also got a double-check as Poe beat his own mark by 3.44 seconds, finishing with a 1:49.53, followed by Parkersburg's Sean Snider, who came in at 1:51.14.

Snider, however, did get his name in the record books later in the meet when he broke the 500 freestyle time with a 5:13.62.

Both Poe and Snider were later named to the All-Tournament team.

Green soon got into the mix as he smashed the 100 butterfly standard with a time of 50.16, a whole seven seconds faster than the record set in 2008. Later in the meet, he broke his own mark in the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 59.26.

The South Charleston junior finished the meet in a tie for first place overall with a total of 16 points along with being named to the All-Tournament team.

The next record to fall might have been the most impressive of the day as Csonka broke Ohio State and Team USA's Tim Phillips' 100 freestyle record with a 47.61, .13 seconds faster than the international gold medalist had done in 2007.

"I actually didn't know I broke it until after my race when (coach) Jan (Grisso) told me, but I'm really excited about it," the senior said. "I'm happy to know that I'm pretty well up there."

Csonka also finished the meet first overall and was placed on the All-Tournament roster along with Abbott.

The Bridgeport boys ended the meet in first place, 28 points ahead of second place Parkersburg South. The host Bruins finished in sixth led by Jordan Haraln's third place finish in the 100 freestyle (54.57), while John Marshall came in eighth behind Aaron Mull's third place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.42).

On the girls' side, the only record to fall was the 100 freestyle as Bridgeport's Maggie Miller broke Audrey Sweeney's 2011 record with a 55.56 winning time.

The sophomore from Buckhannon Upshur finished first overall and made the All-Tournament squad.

John Marshall's Jade Worrels finished in a three-way tie for second overall as the Monarch junior won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:14.35 and also finished second in the 50 freestyle with a 26.75. JM finished the meet sixth overall, one spot ahead of Weir.

Brooke was led by two third-place finishes by Hanna Cebula in the 500 freestyle (6:19.65) and Sara Riggs in the 100 backstroke (1:12.55). The Bruins ended the meet fourth overall.
