RICHMOND - The goal is clear for Edison boys' basketball coach Nate Moses during his first season at the helm - ride his three seniors while his young talent gains experience.

''We are looking to our three seniors Alec (Jones), J.D. Howell, and Ryan (Kramarich) for leadership,'' Moses said. ''We will go as far as they take us.''

Jones and Howell are Moses' top returning players with Jones manning one of the guard spots and Howell filling the middle at center.

They are joined in the starting lineup by sophomore guard Erik Lee.

There are a pair of battles for the other two starting spots. Junior Dylan Jones is competing with sophomore Austin Horan to fill another guard spot. Kramarich is battling with sophomore Clay Woodward to start at forward.

''Some of our young guys will have to step up and contribute, including sophomores Erik Lee, Austin Horan, and Clay Woodward,'' Moses said.

Also in mix for playing time are sophomore Austin Hyndman and junior Storm Allese.

Though they are an inexperienced group, Moses believes his Wildcats can make up for that through their hardworking nature and a willingness to learn.

''Our kids are buying into what we are trying to do both offensively and defensively,'' Moses said. ''This is a whole new system we are running, and with change there are going to be bumps in the road, but we have to stay the course and continue to challenge these kids to get better.''

The Wildcats have been working hard every day in practice and are trying to keep one focus in order to become a better team at the end of the year than they are at the start.

''Our practices have been upbeat and intense,'' Moses said. ''Our focus every day is to be better than the day before.''
