The Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce will again be helping area residents to ring in the holidays with its annual Christmas parade today.
The parade will begin at 4 p.m. and proceed south on Charles Street.
Participants will line up at 3 p.m. at the corner of 27th and Charles streets. Any groups interested in participating that haven't contacted Debbie Baker, the parade's chairwoman, should call her at 304-737-3063 or 304-281-5766.
Baker said several businesses are entering floats, and the Brooke High School Marching Band is set to appear. There also will be several dance studios, area police and fire departments and an equestrian unit.
She noted a few groups will use the parade to help people less fortunate, an important part of the Christmas season.
Kirk Kazienko, son of the late Bernie Kazienko, is carrying on the toy drive for underprivileged children that was begun by his father, and the Brooke High School Leo Club will be collecting toys and monetary donations during the procession.
Volunteers with the Brooke-Hancock American Cancer Society will be accepting monetary donations, as well as handing out a limited number of Relay for Life T-shirts.
Kim Moore, a volunteer with the Brooke County Salvation Army, will accept canned goods and other non-perishable food for the organization's food pantry.
