MOUNDSVILLE - One man was critically injured in a motorcycle crash at the corner of First Street and Sycamore Avenue in Moundsville early Friday.
A police report states the accident was reported at 4:18 a.m. According to police, the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed directly into a tree.
Moundsville Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Danny Holmes described the scene first responders found.
"We received a call a little after 4 a.m. about a motorcycle hitting a tree," said Holmes. "Right now we don't know any reason behind the crash. When first responders got there, he was laying on the bank. We do know that he had facial trauma."
The driver was taken to the Moundsville Volunteer Fire Department building on First Street while a medical helicopter was called to take him to an appropriate medical facility. At 4:57 a.m., the helicopter was reported on the ground behind the volunteer fire department, and the injured man was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
