City Prepares for Visit From Bill Clinton

October 16, 2012
From Staff Reports , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

STEUBENVILLE - An advance team from the Obama re-election campaign was set to meet with city school district officials Monday morning to tour Steubenville High School to determine if it is suitable for a visit by former President Bill Clinton on Thursday.

Campaign officials announced Saturday that Clinton will make a stop in the city following a rally earlier in the day in Parma, with singer Bruce Springsteen.

Ohio campaign spokesman Yianni Varonis said no time for the Steubenville event has been determined yet. The candidates and surrogate representatives continue to visit Ohio in a major effort to win votes in the Buckeye State.

This will be the third visit to the area by Clinton since his first campaign for national office.

The former president participated in a campaign rally at Steubenville High School four years ago when his wife Hillary Clinton was seeking the Democrat Party nomination for president.

About 800 people listened to a 50-minute speech by Clinton in February 2008 when he stumped for Hillary Clinton. The Clintons also stopped at the Millsop Community Center in Weirton in 1992 after he secured his party's nomination for president.
