We know we speak for everyone who knew Bob Grindley when we say Wheeling has lost an outstanding citizen with his passing on October 10.
His social conscience and his sense of community touched many lives for the better. As a businessman, he practiced ethical business standards; as a member of Rotary Internatonal, he believed in "Service Above Self"; as a state soard member of the American Civil Liberties Union, he strove to guarantee every citizen their rights under the Constitution.
As a long-time, active member of Ohio Valley PEACE, he worked diligently to bring awareness to the plight of oppressed people around the world; as a member of the Silver-Haired Legislature, he sponsored legislation to help not just seniors but all West Virginians. His contributions to his community and his state were unique.
"His life was gentle, and the elements so mix'd in him that Nature might stand up and say to all the world 'This was a man!'"
