POWHATAN POINT - Village police on Wednesday arrested Orville "Dale" Baughman for allegedly breaking into the Powhatan Health Center.

Baughman, 26, of 53968 Krebs Hill Road, Clarington, is being held in the Belmont County Jail on $15,750 bond on charges of breaking and entering and theft and possession of schedules III, IV and V drugs.

Police also booked him on charges of aggravated menacing and criminal trespassing.

No bond was set on those charges.

Police Chief Josh Haught said the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification collected evidence at the scene. The chief said he received a call concerning the break-in around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

From the beginning, Haught said police had a suspect in mind. "We found him with a large bag with the prescription medication still inside," he said.

Wheeling Hospital spokesman Gregg Warren said workers are now busy making repairs and taking an inventory of lost items. He said Wednesday's theft follows an attempted break-in about six months ago. At that time, an individual used a large rock to break through the first set of doors, but was unable to make it through the second set.

The Powhatan Clinic is a division of Wheeling Hospital.
