Police: Prescription Drugs Stolen From Health Center

October 11, 2012
By CASEY JUNKINS Staff Writer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Powhatan Point Police Chief Josh Haught believes he knows who broke into the Powhatan Health Center's pharmacy early Wednesday morning to steal prescription drugs.

"We have a suspect in mind, but we will continue investigating until we are sure," said Haught, noting the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation took forensic evidence at the scene of the break-in.

Haught said he received a call about the incident around 5 a.m. Wednesday, leading him to investigate the situation at the site, located along Ohio 7 near the intersection with Ohio 148.

Gregg Warren is a spokesman for Wheeling Hospital, owner of the Powhatan center.

He said officials were busy making repairs and taking an inventory of lost items Wednesday afternoon.

"It was obviously over drugs," he said, noting an alarm sounded during the break-in.

Warren said the Wednesday burglary follows an attempted break-in about six months ago.

He said at that time, an individual used a large rock to break through the first set of doors at the center, but was unable to make it through the second set of doors.

"We will cooperate with the police to help get this resolved as quickly as possible," Warren added.
