WHEELING - Each week, The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register brings you the most updated stats in the Ohio Valley featuring the areas leaders in passing, rushing, receiving, scoring and kicking.
A question that was asked recently was ''who has the best quarterback rating?''
Entering last week, St. Clairsville's Matt Kinnick (Big School) and Steubenville Catholic's Brenton Colabella (Small School) were the leaders in yards per game, but where do they rank among the most efficient quarterbacks in the Ohio Valley?
The passer rating is defined as a measure of the performance of quarterbacks or any other passers. There are at least two formula currently in use: one officially used by the National Football League and the Canadian Football League, and one used in college football. Passer rating is calculated using each quarterback's completion percentage, passing yardage, touchdowns and interceptions.
A perfect passer rating in the NFL is 158.3. A perfect passing efficiency in college football is 1,261.6.
For high school purposes, we are using the college formula, which is (8.4 x yards) + (330 x touchdowns) + (100 x completions) - (200 x interceptions), all divided by attempts.
Sound complicated? You and I both. But you always hear about it so we thought it would be fun to see who the leader is among local quarterbacks.
And the winners are ...
