Ohio Valley’s Joseph Sisters Take Their Show to the Capital of Country

October 1, 2012
By DANIEL DORSCH - Staff Writer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

The musical journey of the Joseph family began more than 15 years ago at church.

Since then, sisters Marybeth, Jamie and Shalyn Joseph have been no strangers to the stage.

A teacher had recommended Marybeth, the oldest, try singing when she was very young, and she eventually got to open the Christmas portion of a Kenny Rogers show.

Jamie, the middle sister, has starred in Ohio County productions of the "Wizard of Oz" and "Fiddler on the Roof."

The youngest sister, Shalyn, still keeps the tiara from her portrayal of Glenda in the "Wizard of Oz."

All three sisters graduated from Ohio County Schools, and all three performed with the Young Patriots, an elite group in Wheeling Park High School's choral program.

On Aug. 29, the Joseph Sisters traveled to Nashville to meet with what their father Tom Joseph calls the "industry people." They performed more than an hour of original music to a number of record label executives, promoters and agents.

The Joseph Sisters also performed recently at the Historic Fort Steuben Berkman Amphitheater. Having already performed at churches, fairs and school functions throughout the Ohio Valley, they already had fans in the audience.

"They're a nice group of girls," said Ohio Valley native Stacy Lucas. "Hopefully, they go somewhere."

Following the Nashville showcase, Tom Joseph said, "It went real well. There were a lot of people at the showcase. A few record labels are really interested in them. It was a very good learning experience, and hopefully it keeps going."

The Joseph Sisters have several more events scheduled for this year. On Friday, they will be opening for the Oak Ridge Boys at Wheeling's Capitol Theatre.

They will be performing at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Seven Springs, Pa. on Saturday, Generations in Wheeling on Nov. 3 and at Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack on Nov. 21.
