Everyone wants to win, but for some teams it doesn't come easy.
Just ask Mark Cisar and the Union Local Jets.
But after 22 straight losses, Union Local finally got a taste of victory by beating Edison last week in Morristown.
Defenders Colton McKivitz and Tater Blake led the way.
McKivitz had 11 tackles, five for loss, a sack, three forced fumbles and a recovery. Blake totaled 11 tackles, one for a loss, with a sack and an interception.
''The monkey's off our back,'' Cisar said after the victory. ''Now the kids can concentrate on winning football games and not worry about ending that streak.''
With the Buckeye 8 schedule looking stronger than it ever has with undefeateds St. Clairsville, Harrison Central, and Bellaire, as well as strong teams in Martins Ferry and Indian Creek, many thought the Jets could be headed for a second consecutive 0-10 season.
Cisar and his staff deserve a lot of credit for helping keep these kids' minds focused when they easily could have hung their heads and said ''here we go again.''
Kuddos to the kids for fighting to the very end and never giving up. Maybe this will be the thing that changes things around but if the Jets want to have their first two-game winning streak since 2009, they will have to be ready for a big challenge coming Friday.
Union Local heads to Martins Ferry, a team coming off its first loss of the season and likely to not be in a very good mood.
Four days ago, this game looked like a snoozer. But with just one victory, intrigue has been added.
(Weekend wrap only includes teams that called or emailed their stats on Sunday).
