The Ohio County Democratic Women's Club will host the fourth annual Northern Regional Jefferson/Jackson Dinner on Saturday at the McLure Hotel, 12th and Market streets in downtown Wheeling. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar, and dinner is at 7 p.m.

The theme for this year's event is "Democrats for Victory," said Rosemary Anderson, chairwoman for the dinner.

"We are excited to have this opportunity to come together as Democrats and to celebrate our party and our elected officials and candidates," she said. "This is a critical election, and we are working for a Democratic victory at the White House, in Congress and in our state and local races."

Among those confirming they will turn out to honor Rockefeller are Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, state Supreme Court Justice Robin Jean Davis and state Treasurer John Purdue.

Rockefeller, 75, first came to West Virginia in 1964 as a Volunteers in Service to America volunteer in Emmons.

He was elected to the House of Delegates in 1966, and as secretary of state in 1968. He next served as president of the former West Virginia Wesleyan College from 1973-1976, when he was elected governor.

Rockefeller held the office of governor until January 1985. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 1984, but held off being sworn in to the federal job in early January until his gubernatorial term was completed later in the month - a move that placed him last at the time in Senate seniority.

Information and reservations for the dinner are available through Holli Massey Smith at 304-232-2970 or Anderson at 304-547-1414.
