LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — IOC President Thomas Bach says Brazilian organizers are showing "great dynamism" in overcoming the delays for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Bach says he's confident Brazilians will get over their "day of mourning" after the national team's 7-1 loss to Germany in the World Cup semifinals and will embrace the Olympics.
Bach and the IOC executive board received an update Wednesday from Rio Games organizers, whose preparations have been plagued by chronic delays. In April, the IOC enacted emergency measures to help get the games back on track.
Bach says "we can really see there is a great dynamism in their preparations" and authorities "are making progress on different venues.'"
Bach is traveling to Rio on Wednesday and will meet with Olympic organizers and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.
